Trametes versicolor , Yun Zhi or simply turkey tail is a white-rot fungus of the Polyporaceae family that grows on dead wood in deciduous forests, its sporomes are woody, semi-circular in shape and very colorful, hence its name “turkey tail”.
The many medicinal properties attributed to this fungus over the years have attracted the attention of scientists, and thanks to their research efforts, more properties have been discovered, such as its ability to stimulate the immune system through the production of NK cells, which are responsible for destroying diseased or cancerous cells in our body, reducing the chances of developing cancer.
Yu et al (2013) discovered that turkey tail extract increases the levels of Bifidobacterium spp. and Lactobacillus spp. bacteria, which help break down food, absorb nutrients and fight "bad" microorganisms, while reducing those of Clostridium spp., Staphylococcus spp. and Enterococcus spp. that cause gastrointestinal infections, indicating that the extract has prebiotic properties.

In conclusion, the turkey tail mushroom has multiple properties that can help prevent diseases such as breast and liver cancer by stimulating the immune system and removing free radicals. It is also beneficial for the digestive system, as it helps us better utilize the food we consume daily by promoting the growth of probiotics while negatively affecting the development of harmful bacteria that can cause infections.
